Simon Field: Dense color, impenetrable at the core; a sophisticated nose of graphite and hints of pencil shaving; the palate surprises with its ripeness and balletic lightness of touch, with loganberry fruit, soft, nicely etched tannins, and an elegant, slightly smoky Mourvèdre finish. The oak, in other words, is worn elegantly, with cashmere weight. Refined and pleasing; un vin de plaisir! - 16
Alex Hunt: Sappy, apple-skin aromas, in a low-sulfur style. Appealing fruit sweetness on the palate once you get past the cidery aspect. But here winemaking style is overriding terroir. And there’s a vegetal character that suggests less-than-perfectly-healthy grapes - 13.5
John Livingstone-Learmonth: Dark, crimson tinted robe; big declaration nose: oak, pine, charcoal, sleek black fruits, cellar on top for now. Has a chalky tang, too. Palate gives a rather severe start, though there is a brief spurt of black juice near the finish, before it ends on drier moments. Made to be intense; shows a green grain. Square-shaped tannins, Mourvèdre possibly present. Gentler oaking in older oak or larger containers would benefit this. Terroir is masked by the cellar. From 2015, it will be more integrated, but the fruit will also be less vivid. Has notes of clarity within. To 2021 - 13
