Ella Lister: Vibrant, lucid red. With a lighter, more delicate character on nose than later vintages, the 1993 is shy, with tart red fruits and also a tobacco softness and overall delicacy and freshness. Pure, fresh, tart, and juicy on the palate, it has lots of acidity and life, if not a huge amount of body. Nonetheless, there is lots of fruit and a long finish, plus it’s got that Italianate elegance and lift going on—a slightly sour note unique to Italy, regardless of grape variety! Satiny.
