Bottled in Oporto, from a renowned Port shipper no longer in existence. Medium dark garnet, with a pink edge. In possession of a lovely and evocative nose, with fragrant floral aromas and notes of glove leather, spice, and black cherry. Big, boisterous, bold blackberry flavors, as it seems that Mackenzie always finds a way to deliver. Very expressive and exuberant, with a stunning youthfulness, yet a heavyweight contender, deeply concentrated and smooth. Blind, I’d be guessing 1970 or ’77. So far in the tasting, this is one of the biggest surprises, as many people in the room had never heard of this producer. The sheer power and structure are significant strengths. Only my third time trying this VP—it had been seven years since the last time, and the 1955 rocks. | 95
