Michael Schuster: Dense, just a touch of herbal Merlot; rich, concentrated, fleshy, fresh, and very finely tannic, beautifully, tautly constituted; very sweet in flavor, spicy, complex, gently mouth-coating, a wine of great scope, tenacity, and beautiful texture, prolonged to taste and very aromatically persistent in aftertaste. A great Pichon, to follow on from its very seductive 2015, tasting much richer now than a year ago. 2030–45+. 94–96
Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: The most complete expression of the property since it was bought by Roederer, and a noble and complex expression of the Pauillac terroir (very fine notes of cedar and Havana), in a full and forthright body. It will probably deserve a better rating after bottling. Here, too, the highest proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in a long time— which doesn’t stop it from being quite different from the neighboring Baron! 94–98
