Michael Schuster: A marked new-oak presence to smell, alongside the ripe black fruit and faint “house raisiny” character; very full, attractively fresh, drily if finely tannic; a freshly sweet, pure, transparent, and refined flavor within the slightly dry oaktannin frame; long and subtle, fresh and fragrant, complex, racy and pure, a wine with a core of great finesse, and with a very fine, prolonged, and perfumed finish if, as always, with that touch of alcoholic warmth. My personal taste would prefer this at half a degree less alcohol, and a touch less oaky. But this is a beautiful Pavie, far less excessive than it has been in the past, with a purity, finesse, and class that make 2016 Perse’s finest expression of the terroir to date. Impressive. 2030–45. 94–96
Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: Rich, deep, intense, refined volume, and racy length. 97–98
