Andrew Jefford: Dark, clear black-red. Earthy fresh plum scents: lively, brisk, thrusting. Little sense of inadequate ripeness here: just a hint of grassiness toward the back of the aromatic spectrum. Deep, quite grippy, with lots of early season plum. A typical Pavie Macquin writ small—but a good effort for the year, and it needs saying that the tempered acidity of St-Emilion will be much easier to drink in the long term than the intemperate acidity of the Left Bank. Now to 2024. 89
Stephen Brook: Intense herbaceous nose, but the intensity obscures the green tones. There is a good dose of oak, too. Rich and textured, this has surprising opulence for the vintage, although the rather tart acidity gives the vintage its signature. Yet it lacks persistence, though the immediacy of fruit gives it drinkability. 89
