Stephen Brook: Very deep red. Lush and plummy on the nose, with some chocolaty oak, but there’s no lack of ripe opulent fruit here. The palate’s rich and juicy, with swagger rather than refinement, and ample underlying acidity that cuts the richness. The finish is more angular, and the wine seems to be pulling in different directions. While zesty and enjoyable, it doesn’t quite persuade me that Petit Verdot works best as a solo act. 86
Andrew Jefford: Deep dark black-red. An evidently ambitious wine, as the oak still shows somewhat, even after six years; cassis and spices beneath. Deep, concentrated, driving, pure, with a green tone to the cassis fruit though in other respects the ripeness is superb, so perhaps it is just a characteristic of PV in this zone. Mouth-filling and svelte, with soft, classy tannins. A truly impressive effort with plenty left to give. 91
Peter Liem: Dark and juicy, this feels like berry pie, its ripe, forward flavors backed by a hint of pastrylike oak. It’s fragrant and fresh, and the wild, brambly tone of its fruit is appealing. 85
