Stephen Brook: There’s lemon and quince on the nose of this Chardonnay, removing it by a mile from many California stereotypes. The attack is ripe but zesty, with an appealing juiciness and no herbaceousness. It shows admirable limpidity and precision. There’s the merest hint of residual sugar on the finish, which is essentially dry. No rough edges here, and it’s stylistically consistent from first sniff to the lingering finish. Very good balance. 90
Andrew Jefford: Full gold. Plain and forthright, with quite a sweet, peachy Chardonnay style on the nose. Much the same on the palate (though the peach isn’t as sweet as I feared), making this the most “varietal” of our three unblended Chardonnays. I enjoy the relatively delicate Virginia style, though, and the fact that it has some secondary character, something approximating to vinosity. On the palate, too, there is dessert apple, as well as peach. 87
Peter Liem: Medium-bodied notes of sweetcorn and stone fruit are simple and straightforward, while the alcohol feels more prominent than the stated 13.2% would lead you to suspect. 79
