Stephen Brook:Very deep red, with rather more evolution than expected. The nose is dumb and rather surly, with black cherry and chocolate aromas; it opened a bit with aeration. Medium-bodied, a bit slack, reasonably concentrated, but angular and lacking some flesh and drive. This may not be a perfect bottle, since it shows this gruff density and a lack of charm, and there is insufficient bite and persistence. Quite long. Disappointing overall, as have been previous encounters with the 2001.
