Stephen Brook:Still deep in color, if quite evolved. Rather earthy nose, wet leaves, black cherries, and a touch of menthol—not exactly fresh. Quite rich and concentrated, fresher and crisper than the nose, and although the tannins are slightly furry, they sustain the palate, where there is a touch of coffee. Still going strong, though not exactly youthful, this has some rude vigor but tails off slightly on the finish. Nonetheless, a fine 1983.
