Stephen Brook: Fairly deep to deep red, with a garnet rim, but still luminous. The nose is dumb—and leafy rather than savory. On the palate, medium-bodied, still quite tannic, but has freshness and zest. It is not a 1982 stereotype—that is, it is not Napa-like—but is rather refined and concentrated, without excessive density or chewiness. Perhaps it is lacking in complexity, but there is nothing weak. Immensely drinkable, with a sweet, long, vigorous finish. By coincidence, the same wine, tasted blind the following day, was equally good and showed much better than some other 1982 St-Emilion premiers crus. 17.5.
