Serena Sutcliffe: Vintage September 17–October 5. I have been fortunate enough to have had the 1921 from impeccable sources on several occasions, and it remains one of the great wines of my life. Its overriding quality is one of sweetness, almost liqueur-like. Plums and sugar—I would love to know the residual sugar in this wine, but we could never spare any for analysis! It is a vinous miracle—or is it a mystery? There was only one bottle at this event, from an American collector, and it bore no resemblance to my experience of this wine.
