Jesús Barquín:Mahogany brown with greenish rim, slightly cloudy. It is evidently old, as the concentration, the complexity, and the hint of VA clearly show. But without denying its profundity, there is a lack of finesse in this wine, particularly evidenced by its rancio background notes. There is a not-so-noble oxidation here that is noticeable on both nose and palate. 92
Andrew Jefford:Relatively deeply colored walnut and meat jus, with a little reddening depth. Sweet vanilla, unlit tobacco, cologne—exactly the scents you hope to find, delivered with a charm and a finesse that I didn’t expect from such a deeply colored wine. On the palate, it’s deep, sweet, vivid, and rich still. For a 40 Year Old, this is looking in good shape. It has all the harmony you expect for its age; the flavors are refined, long, complex, and gracious. 92
Richard Mayson:Deep amber and walnut red; rich, nutty aromas, walnuts predominating, with singed, dried fruit underlying; full, sweet, with chocolaty richness mid-palate, slightly overburdened by sweetness on the finish. Lovely old wine but just a little bit top heavy to score highly. 89
