BUY THE WINE

John Gilman: A pretty good example of the vintage, with no signs of overripeness or excessive tannin. The complex nose offers up a melange of cassis, dark berries, coffee bean, cigar smoke, soil tones and cedar. On the palate, the wine is deep, full-bodied, and chewy, with good balance, moderate complexity, and good length and grip on the firmly tannic finish. Happily, there is plenty of fruit to absorb the tannins eventually. 2020–40+. 15.5
