BUY THE WINE

John Gilman: A classic wine from this fine estate, which has been one of the most consistently excellent, traditionally styled Left Bank properties over the past several decades but really seems to have taken a step up in quality in the past handful of vintages. The deep, complex, and very classy nose offers up a melange of black cherries, cassis, gravelly soil tones, tobacco leaf, cedar, and a smoky top note. On the palate, the wine is deep, full-bodied, and chewy, with a fine core of pure fruit, ripe tannins, good acids, and excellent focus and balance on the long, reserved finish. An excellent 2010. 2020–50+. 17.5+
