BUY THE WINE

Tim Atkin: Dense ruby, some purple. Some oxidation on the nose? A little dry and pruney, lots of tannin, but is there enough fruit to sustain the wine? Good acidity and concentration and tannin, but quite chewy and extracted. Second bottle slightly fresher. Tannic and concentrated and with very good aging potential 17

Nicolas Belfrage: Medium deep. Clean but not very expressive on nose, hints of plum. Solid acid, plentiful tannin on palate. But fine fruit. A sleeper? Very long and complex. Has the ingredients to be very good in 10 years’ time; not drinking today, but as near as this tasting has come to a great Aglianico 18

Bruno Besa: Black core to garnet rim. Open, mature nose, with black fruits and hints of orange peel, oriental spices, and mint. Full body, with great fine tannins and long persistent finish. A classic great wine, with very long aging potential 19
