Simon Field: Sweaty, slightly evolved nose, with hints of strawberry and bitter chocolate; then a palate that is sweet and savory in turn, with hints of herbaceousness that will, ultimately give garrigue notes and a burgeoning complexity to see it through an enticing mid-term evolution - 16.5
Alex Hunt: Quite complex aromas—tar, licorice, raspberry jam—but nothing exaggerated. The palate shocks through contrast: none of those aromas continues at all but are replaced by a ripe-peach surmaturité. Even this, though, is reined in by that fine-grained but insistent Gigondas tannin structure, so in the end, what should be a chaotic melange of aromas and flavors is brought to a neat resolution on the finish - 17
John Livingstone-Learmonth: Slight evolution in its plum-red robe; understated aroma, an interesting reserve about it. It has a peppery, spiced, springbreeze scent on it, as if some pine woods were near the vineyards, and a mineral implication, lead. A bouquet of precision if you study it. There is an underlying sweetness, a sweep of ripe fruit underneath. The palate is overtly peppery, with a generous middle of Grenache plum fruit, very typical of the variety. It has the grain and cut of Gigondas and definite local attributes, a pumice-stone clack toward the end, and an ash (cendre) note. Very faithful to its place. Will unfurl gradually. Mid-2013–27 - 17.5
