Michel Bettane and Thierry Desseauve: Sooty notes of toasty oak plus a hint of leather and spice, like some of the other samples; full body and an unusually fat, velvet texture. Ripe fruit to the fore, not excessive but more pronounced than in the Latour-Martillac tasted immediately beforehand. A deep wine that like so many of this year’s entries performs better than ever in this vintage—a credit to viticultural improvements of the past two years. 17
