Alex Hunt: Very pretty if unflamboyant wine. The palate shows good sugar/acid tension, and there’s a nice brightness supporting real concentration throughout. The flavors are not especially defined—but I guess you could argue that was a sign of harmony! This still shows great freshness at ten years old and will continue to develop - 17
Andrew Jefford: Deep, burnished gold in color. Sweet and warm, refined, with lots of lime flower, orchard fruit, and pineapple. The floral notes give the fruit a very attractive lift. There’s some lovely buttery botrytis, too. A subtle synthesis of all of the things you hope Tokaji will smell of. Gosh, this is splendidly concentrated and complete on the palate. Like our other two 2002s, it is relatively dry in style, but for concentration, poise, and finesse, this is one of the finest wines in the tasting. Those same notes of linden and zesty apple, nectarine, and apricot show up on the palate; but don’t go looking for too much honey or cream, autumn leaf or umami here. The discreet sugars slowly evolve on the palate toward barley sugar, but in general this is a Tokaji of pristine freshness, and it surely has several decades ahead of it. Magnificent - 18.5
Mark Savage: Lovely freshness here allied to good concentration in the fruit and good balance. The color not especially deep, and it still looks young and capable of lasting for a long time to come. It is clean and fresh and we might say “modern” in style for Tokaji wine. No startling originality here, though - 15
