Alex Hunt: A floral/barley-sugar aroma leads to a palate of undeniable intensity and sweetness yet a fairly one-dimensional flavor. There’s the bitterness of bergamot mid-palate, and some rasping acidity at the end; the wine doesn’t quite hang together harmoniously - 15
Andrew Jefford: Glowing russet-amber. Earthy, faintly minty, some waxiness, some lemon verbena: more floral than fruit, though more aromatic evolution than our other Aszú Eszencia. Some straw, some hay, some meadow flowers. Intriguing and enticing. Vivid, deep, searching, with lots of herbal or lavender character (Yellow Muscat). Mellow, plump, and full, though with very vivid, scented acidity. Slightly heavy and lacking finesse compared to the other Aszú Eszencia, though allusive and gratifying nonetheless - 15
Mark Savage: A much more oxidative expression of Eszencia here, perfectly valid and very interesting so it must come down to individual preference. This is very liquoreux and delicious with complexity, but in terms of ultimate originality and vitality I must confess to a preference for the 2006 expression here. If it is a contest between the newer, more reductive school and the somewhat more old-fashioned oxidative one, then I am on the side of the former on this occasion, with its greater sense of vitality and ultimately I think precision and originality - 18
