BUY THE WINE

Alex Hunt: This nose is both muted and exotic, with hints of ginger and tropical fruit but all quite low-key. The palate wears its sugar on its sleeve, acid comes next, and then flavor is in the background. This is slightly hollow - 15

Andrew Jefford: Deep, tangy yellow gold, with orange hints. A little constrained and brooding, almost as if the wine needs decanting. But very classical, with lots of apricot, apple, and other orchard fruits, and lots of leaf and nut, too. Also relatively dry in style, as the first of the 2002s was, so perhaps this is a hallmark of the vintage. Deep, poised, and long, though the apple flavors are perhaps a little bruised in style—a little apple-core rather than fresh-cut apple. Intense and long, with a hint of anise in the finish - 14.5

Mark Savage: Not the depth of character of the previous wine of this vintage, and it is slightly sour by comparison, though not without merit, just somehow leaner and greener and almost stemmier, so it may need more time. Good, if a little short on charm at present - 14
