Andrew Jefford: Saturated dark black-red: surely the deepest of its cohort. There’s some oak here, and it is dense and alluring, with some sweet Caribbean spices to it. Would we prefer pure fruit? Well, this is Juliénas, where the fruit tends to be a little less primary than elsewhere, so let’s give it the benefit of the doubt. It’s very alluring. On the palate, this is surely one of the very biggest wines of our 103 total: broad-shouldered, muscular, weighty, spicy, chocolaty. Extravagant and sumptuous in a way that only Juliénas (and its clay soils... Capitan?) can be. This will certainly see out five years in the cellar and provide much pleasure as it does so. 92
Peter Liem: The delicate fruit here seems a little insubstantial, lacking depth and length on the palate. While the flavors are ripe and appealing, they don’t feel quite complete. 82
