Andrew Jefford: Saturated deep purple-black. Exotic, almost kinky: sweet, lush, slabby-spicy. Enticing but such a different grade of enticement to Fleurie or St- Amour. You might not recognize this as Beaujolais in a blind tasting, but put it somewhere in the Rhône. On the palate this really pushed Beaujolais out toward Madiran, with a hugely textured, dense, slabby, and chewy palate, and the fruit is much less cherry-enticing here than elsewhere; dark plums and sloes, but very much subordinate to those slabby tannins. Find a dark corner for this somewhere, and take a look in a few years. 91
Peter Liem: This is slightly syrupy in tone, feeling overwhelmed by its ripeness. It’s firmly tannic as well, clamping down on the fruit flavors. 83
