Tim Atkin: Dense, youthful color. Spicy, oaky, faintly feral note on the nose. Way too much oak here. Tarry, smoky, almost Barossa-like. Hard to see the Tempranillo here. Dry, overoaked finish that will only get worse with time. 10

Jesús Barquín: Very intense and modern in every aspect—from color, to nose, to palate. Extracted, with smoky meat notes; roasted coffee, great acidity, wild tannins, long toffee finish. Not an enjoyable profile, so I must rate accordingly, though I am aware many people love this style. 12.5

Alex Hunt: Heady, exotic, complex nose, with a fair bit of toasty oak but great depth and richness of fruit behind it. Berry fruit, meat, spices, mineral—it’s all there. The palate achieves power and poise simultaneously. There is heaps of fruit concentration, but framed in a pinpoint acid/tannin structure, with enough complexity to maintain interest all the way through. Very nicely done indeed. 17
