BUY THE WINE

Tim Atkin: Very dense, youthful color for 2005. High-alcohol nose, with lots of oak. Palate overripe, again. Sweet plum and blackberry fruit with some fig. Just too much alcohol. Hard to pick as Ribera blind. Dry finish. 13.5

Jesús Barquín: Deep cherry, almost opaque. Impressive and ambitious, deeply extracted, and concentrated. Not a harmonious wine, lacking balance and displaying aggressive tannins. Might improve with radical aeration, but the circumstances of this tasting do not allow this. 13.5

Alex Hunt: Pruney, Tawny Port nose. Acid and alcohol both very marked on the palate, leaving little opportunity for the now quite floppy fruit to express itself. Overall, overdone. 12
