Andrew Jefford: Deep; now clear black-red in color. Exciting aromas: The creator has managed to imbue this wine with lots of sexy flesh, and the sweet, fresh-oak input works well with that to create a sassy, hip kind of aromatic. (Not, though, for Burgundy classicists.) On the palate, this is bright, forceful, fruit-forward; lots of sweet autumn apple, and a fair shower of tannins, too, for this tasting, which I welcome (since wines are drunk with food). It’s very bright, very contemporary, not hugely subtle, but very fit for purpose. New Zealand. 15.5
Anthony Rose: Deep-hued and bright, this is fresh, bright, and attractively mulberry-like on the nose, with fine, sweetly ripe, and opulent mulberry-juicy fruit concentration and richness on the palate; there’s plenty of seductively sweet Pinot Noir fruitiness encased in a framework of sinewy, sweet tannins and fine savory acidity. Very well balanced overall and could do with a good two to three years to really evolve into something even more complex. Australia. 17.5
Joanna Simon: Deep, youthful colored. Still youthful on the nose—perfumy and bright—but with some spicy complexity. Full, ripe palate, with sweet strawberry and black-cherry fruit and a hint of fresh mint in the background. Velvety texture. Chocolaty, coffeeish oak. A fraction hot on the finish, but otherwise balanced and polished. Australia? 16.5
