Andrew Jefford: Deep black-red with some fading opacity. Warm, round, sweet-fleshed but exuberant. Very Pinot and also very generous. The fruits are more black than red and almost opulent. Lush, full, vivacious palate, with lots of fruited depths, exuberant and spicy. Little texture, by contrast, and almost no tannin, and without much complexity behind the fruit. But hey, it just dances into your mouth and is so good-natured and engaging when it’s there that you just have to like it. Perhaps the complexities will come with age. New Zealand? 15
Anthony Rose: Medium ruby; a sweet hint of demerara sugar, spice, and strawberry on the nose; this shows an attractively juicy, strawberryish fruit palate, with very nicely integrated oak balanced by a juicy, essentially savory freshness and backed up by some firm almost chunky tannins that bring a slightly rustic feel to the finish, but overall it’s a beautifully crafted Pinot, with a lovely silky texture to it and excellent balance and finesse. New Zealand. 18
Joanna Simon: Medium-deep color, paler at rim. Perfumy, ripe cherry-pie nose, with a touch of savory undergrowth. Medium-full, ripe, palate—ripe but incisive cherry fruit, with gentle spicy flavors. Succulence balanced by light acidity and tannin. A fair amount going on, but elegant and balanced. New Zealand? 16.5
