Andrew Jefford: Deep, clear black-red in color. Plenty of force of fruit, but there is a slightly dry or dried-fruit cast: dry cherries, all the fleshiness departed, and only the aromatic components of the acid-sweet spectrum remaining. On the palate, too, this is a very dry, elemental, harsh Pinot, with a notably acidic, austere finish through which bitter notes cascade. I’m afraid I couldn’t drink this with any pleasure. It lacks fleshiness, sweetness, and poise. Australia? 11
Anthony Rose: Good youthful ruby hue, with a veneer of polished sweet vanillin-spicy oak and celery salt over a sweetly dark-fruited, almost blackcurrant-scented fragrance promising dark-berry-fruit opulence, initially semi- delivering, but with the palate showing a blackcurranty fruit character with a reinforced mulberryish dry bite to it. This is a Pinot with chunk and heft that could be really interesting with, for instance, game. Australia. 16
Joanna Simon: Deep, very youthful purple. Ripe but fresh, fragrant raspberry, black-fruit, and rose-petal nose. Piercing black fruit (cassis), with a herbal, almost minty flavor on the palate—very distinctive. Intense, precise, linear (but not simple). Silky texture. Still young. Will develop. New Zealand? 17
