BUY THE WINE

Tim Atkin: Very dense color for a 2006, showing very little development. Some VA on the nose, also apparent on the palate. Big, ripe, flavorsome wine, but the tannins are too dry on the back palate. Concentrated, but hairshirt stuff 14

Nicolas Belfrage: Deep; virtually opaque. Blackberry and spice on nose. Lowish acid, sturdy tannin, but the rich berry fruit sweeps all before it. Sweet and ripe and succulent; it will drink well for two to four years 15.5

Bruno Besa: Black core to lively thin ruby rim. Intense, mature, restrained, with very clean mature red-fruit character and hints of vanilla and Rosemary. Full body, with beautifully balanced palate, great tannins and fruit, and a long, clean finish. A technically impeccable wine of considerable character 17
