Tim Atkin: Dense ruby/purple. Big, bold, fringe Aussie style. More of a Shiraz than a Syrah. Lots of oak, lots of flavor, but a little clumsy and clunky. Oak-dominated, drying tannins, with the acidity prominent on the back palate 13.5
Stephen Brook: Opaque red. Powerful, spicy, bacony nose, a bit strange and leafy; chocolate and cola. Medium-bodied on the palate but slack and furry. There is ample acidity, but it seems edgy and almost herbaceous. A cool-climate Syrah with a nod to the Rhône, but perhaps excessively cool. Slightly dry tannins fight the sweetness of fruit, and there’s some alcohol on the finish. Medium-length 14.5
Alex Hunt: A harmonious but very “sweet” nose of cassis and coconut implies a style more typically South Australian than North American. The palate is consistent with the nose, both in that the flavors follow on from the aromas, and the harmony remains. However, it also introduces a layer of earthy, almost beetroot complexity that adds interest and offsets the sweetness of the fruit. This savory addition is a welcome third act and makes for a very pleasing whole 17
