Alex Hunt: Immediate freshness and appeal on the nose, with a scrubby/brambly character enhancing typically Argentinian strawberry-jam fruit. Though not the longest or most complex wine here, it has lovely verve, and the palate pep of popping candy - 16
Andrew Jefford: Glossy, saturated red-black. Ripe, plump, earthy, voluptuous; a ton of black fruits, with an almost Porty richness to them. You just can’t help smiling when you smell a wine like this, and it draws you into the glass; not in any way overly sweet, despite the ripeness, and the oak is in fact relatively discreet. It truly reminds me of Douro musts. On the palate, it is very lush, very full, very sense-tingling. You don’t get the explosive vegetative force of a Douro must here; instead, it is all sweet black fruit and thrashing feathery tannins, but there is a tiered, decked quality to that black fruit, and the tannins bring it a kind of sobriety; these things distinguish it from sumptuous Chilean sweetness. Stonkingly good, in other words. A truly splendid young wine— and not disfigured by too much oak, which tends to be a generic problem in this tasting (for both countries) - 18
Jancis Robinson: Lots of glycerol! Very dark crimson. Gamey, rich nose. Almost animal fur on the nose here it’s so opulent and ripe! Oak is much less fluid than on the better Chileans. A bit hot and drying on the end. Very sweet indeed at first. Wild, almost feral. Too much for my taste. Tight and oaky on the end. Drink 2015–20 - 15.5
