Alex Hunt: This nose has notable drama and lift. There is an almost Priorat-like combination of fruit density and rocky/mineral top notes. The palate also plays with the tension between sweet, near-raisined fruit and savory overtones. I wish that it had emphasized the latter a bit more, however. The texture is a little unctuous and blobby. But I admire the idea - 16
Andrew Jefford: Saturated dense black-purple. Rich, deep, slightly stewy, slightly caramelized, with plenty of oak. Nonetheless, an attractive mixture: unassertive, subtle, expressive. On the palate, the wine is much as the aromatic profile suggested: beautifully extracted, yet with lots of its final complexity derived from élevage, as well as vineyard. That overall harmony and subtlety remains. The fruit, by contrast, is a little baked. It’s an impressive and wellcrafted wine, but I suspect I would find it a little fatiguing to drink - 14.5
Jancis Robinson: Dark and brooding and savory. Broad and sweet and almost lacking freshness. Awfully sweet. A little foot-dragging. Black cherries and near-syrup. Rather leathery tannins. Note to self: Avoid naked flames. So hot on the end! Drink to 2017 - 16
