Alex Hunt: The nose is on the closed side, but with enticing blackberry depths and a little bit of understated oak spice. The palate is a little lighter and shorter than expected, slightly tilted toward acidity, which lends an appealing freshness but leaves me wanting more richness to balance - 15
Andrew Jefford: Saturated black-red. Light, graceful and unshowy aromatically, with something faintly earthy or gravelly to it: a distant South American echo of Pessac-Léognan. This is welcome subtlety. At the same time, there is also a faint herbaceous note. That earthy engagement is apparent on the palate and lends the seductive blackcurrant fruit an intriguing, faintly compressed force; discreet but firm tannins add to this effect of density—a serious gastronomic Chilean, in other words. The acidity is pronounced but full of fruited power and aromatic force; the gentle grassiness behind is a complexing factor as much as a failing. That density and sinewy tannic force dominate the long finish, and you also get some somber aromatic black-fruit notes, too. This should have excellent aging potential - 16.5
Jancis Robinson: Very deep purplish crimson. Interesting savory nose, almost as though there were a little Syrah in here. Then, on the palate, the acidity is a bit insistent, and it is very aggressively both dry and drying on the finish. Overextracted. Drink 2015–20 - 15.5
