Alex Hunt: There is a lot of toasty-coconut oak on the nose here, which, given the age of the wine, feels like it’s here to stay. So, is it a legitimate part of a harmonious whole, as in Rioja, or has someone overegged the pudding? The palate answers: a bit of both. In terms of flavor, the fruit is not too sweet, and the savory aspects from the grape merge seamlessly with those of the oak. However, there is some planky wood tannin here that adds undue harshness to the texture. Close, but no cigar - 15
Andrew Jefford: Dense, dark black-red. Sweet, light, tobacco-y; the scents of a sandy shoreline. This seems very evolved, without a lot of fruit presence. On the palate, by contrast, there is much more depth and fullness to the wine. I am, in fact, impressed by the central-palate fruit presence, and the customary (for Argentina) extractive force of the wine supports that and brings it into relief. There are even some floral notes here, too. Good wine, so I am puzzled as to why the aromatic spectrum isn’t more successful - 14.5
Jancis Robinson: Very charming, sweet, and winning. Lots of bright, sweet fruit but a bit green and austere on the finish. Muscular. A bit drying. Drink to 2018 - 16
