Alex Hunt: This nose has a curious combination of sweet fruit and autumnal leafy notes. Is this some whole-bunch character or an unusual vineyard? I’m not sure. It’s growing on me as I smell it—but so, too, is the evident alcohol. The palate is very flamboyant, savory, dramatic—and alcoholic! I cannot help admiring it, even if it has about as much practical application as good dry Marsala - 15.5
Andrew Jefford: Dense, deep, and dark. The aromatic profile of this wine is slightly strange: livid, farmy. On the palate, it is deep, dense, and concentrated, but also slightly dangerous and decompositional; we will try another bottle. Second bottle: Aromatically, it still smells a little dangerous and deviant; the palate is a little cleaner, but two strange aromatic profiles suggest caution (and counsel analysis). All of which is a shame, since the raw materials are impressively dense and concentrated for the Argentinian cohort, suggesting old vines and low yields. Score? 14
Jancis Robinson: Blackish ruby. Sweet jammy nose— fermented strawberries? So sweet! There is some freshness to counterbalance the sweetness, but the alcohol is so high that I can’t imagine drinking this wine for pleasure. Pretty astringent and hot on the finish, too. Drink to 2016 - 15.5
