Andrew Jefford: Dense black-red. Warm, deep, mineral fruits; perfect spirit integration. The fruits are still youthfully fresh, with some of that smashed-stem, sappy, explosive quality that very young Port has. Lush, rich, full, dense, spicy, with a dry, penetrating finish, beautifully amplified by the black fruits that hang on inside the wine with remarkable tenacity. Sleek yet dense, with plenty of extract and matter. A little time in the glass suggests the fruits weren’t uniformly fresh and black; there is a salty, faintly raisiny lick in the aftertaste. A wonderfully aerodynamic Port, yet it still has everything you’ll need for the long term 18.5
Richard Mayson: Deep, nearly opaque, youthful ruby; thin crimson rim. Open, overt, and minty, blackberry fruit, very sweet up-front and lacking structure; spiky, peppery tannins on the finish. Surely a New World attempt at Port, which doesn’t quite work for me… 12 Jancis Robinson: Dark crimson. Sweet and rich and spicy. Very racy. Sinewy. Well balanced for the future. Just a little too young at the moment but still very convincing. Just a tad light. Marked acidity, which is well integrated. Drink 2014–30 17.5
