Tim Atkin: Dense, youthful color. Meaty, gamey, appealingly feral nose. Masses of pepper spice and intensity. A wine that you can’t wait to taste. Savory, spicy palate, lovely acidity, sweet oak, great length and finesse. A great Kiwi take on Hermitage. Spicy, refined, long. 2–5 years- 18.5

Alex Hunt: Comes across as very modern-Rhôneinfluenced: plenty of new oak but supported by much more savory, tarry aromas than the New Zealand norm. Very aromatic in the mouth—complex, exotic, spicy, yet rigorously dry. Uncompromising and individual wine- 17

Anthony Rose: Good bright, youthful dark-hearted color and a fine intensity of aroma, with undertones of cinnamon spice and freshly milled black pepper, very much in the cool-climate northern Rhône style; good ripe blackberryfruit richness tinged with sweetly aromatic pepper, with a succulence of texture and balancing freshness. Very well-made, classic cool-climate-style Syrah- 17
