Tim Atkin: Saturated purple. Rich, blockbuster nose. More Australia or Chile than NZ . Plum and blackberry, with strident pepper spice. Big and quite alcoholic, but not particularly tannic or dense. Most of the flavors are upfront here, but there’s an appealing clove/ white-pepper finish with decent acidity. Now to 2014- 15.5
Alex Hunt: Aromatically, this is in the warm-climate camp: ripe forest fruit without any trace of the forest itself. Some toffeeish oak plays a supporting role. Yet the palate is more slender than the nose suggests. The bright acid is welcome, but flavors and structure do seem slightly mismatched- 14
Anthony Rose: Intense bright youthful ruby in color; the nose is sweet, and ripe to the point of being almost overripe, with a sweet, plumand- prune-like aspect to it; it’s similarly ripe on the palate, though with a somewhat searing acidity on the back palate and a slight astringency of tannin that between them create an odd imbalance- 14
