Andrew Jefford: Pale to mid-gold. Sweet, doughy, and fresh: softly attractive. There’s a sappiness behind the wine, too. Juicy, full, vibrant, exuberant, sweet. Hard not to enjoy a small glass... but then? This is the big challenge for New Zealand. In the case of this wine, its sappiness helps keeps up the interest once all those doughy, passion-fruit charms have fallen away. Well made and an exuberant, pungent, hugely enjoyable wine, though not yet a fine Sauvignon in gastronomic terms. Little vinosity and no minerality 14.5
Andreas Larsson: Intense and ripe nose: less floral and more fruity, with hints of stone fruit. The palate is full and rather unctuous, with generous fruit, high ripeness, and a milder acidity. Quite long and rich finish 14
Stephan Reinhardt: Clear on the nose: asparagus and fresh mushrooms, pears; quite earthy. On the palate, it is so sweet, due to the alcohol and extract, that it is really hard to swallow. At least there are no reflexes to do so. Overdone, though the acidity is crisp and nice, the finish quite mineral. At the end of the day, this wine is too rich to make you drunk 14
