Stephen Brook: Deep red. Slightly jammy and stewed nose, a bit obvious in its overt fruitiness and oakiness. Broad and rather soft, with a touch of flab. This seems heavy-handed, a bit too ripe, and thus lacking in lift and persistence. It’s solid and juicy but lacks flair. Moderate length 14.5
Alex Hunt: An unusual and pungent aroma of boiling tar and burning scrubland; tasting blind, you could easily place this in South Africa. Strip that back, and there’s quite a decent, bramble-jelly-fueled Zin underneath. But all in all, this is not a pleasant mouthful— it’s far too acrid 10
Anthony Rose: Mid-ruby to garnet, the color is showing signs of evolution, the nose mingling sweet blackberry jam and licorice with evolved cola-spicy undertones. The fruit, too, is nicely evolved, with supple, juicy tannins and nice balancing freshness. This is a Zin whose succulent bottle-aged maturity adds a degree of complexity, though it probably needs to be drunk sooner rather than later 16
