Andrew Jefford: Clean pale gold. An excellent nose: some of the richer charm that the varietal blend promises, yet realized with the freshness and vivacity of Franschhoek’s closed, cool valley. Honey, straw, calves in an open-air byre; a little white wild flower (hawthorn or something similar). On the palate, it realizes that profile with grace and light lines. The palate is fresh, sustained, subtle, and long. Another truly outstanding white wine. 92
Andreas Larsson: Youthful, grapey, floral, and generous, with more primary fruit notes like crushed pear, apricot, and some grape skin. The palate has good bite and extract, with ripe citrus notes; quite bold and broad, with generous fruit, yet a balanced acidity and a fine sensation of freshness on the finish. 86
Jancis Robinson: Mid-straw. Some heady floral notes— blossom? Interesting to find a South African white not dominated by Sauvignon, Chardonnay, or Chenin! But it’s a little sour on the end, losing freshness and focus. Although it hints at a sweet-and-sour concoction, it’s well done and a harmonious blend, but I don’t think it will have a very long life. It finishes rather suddenly. Just slightly simple. Drink 2014–15. 87
