Andrew Jefford: Clear silver-gold. Piles of straw on the nose, here; a whole barnful. Alpine flowers and hay meadows: almost affronting, but I can’t say I dislike it, either. Not the subtlest nose on the table, though. Sweet, fresh, and hay-like on the palate, too. Pure, graceful, and untrammeled, and amazingly aromatic. Fascinating that it’s a blend, since it smells and tastes like a varietal Roussanne to me. Clean, fresh, a cascade of lightness and scent. Anyway: very good wine but not quite very complex wine. Take a look, nonetheless, for its wonderful expression of character. 89
Andreas Larsson: More development here, a slight hint of oxidation or deliberate natural style: bruised apple and pear, with some honey/beeswax. The palate offers a hint of residual sugar; a much more grapey and straightforward style; rather light structure and finish. 80
Jancis Robinson: Deep straw. Strongly herbal on the nose. A winning array of spring flowers on the nose, with Chenin evident but lots of other elements, too. This is the sort of wine that only South Africa can do. Some palates may find this wine just a little too sweet, but I think the balance is (just) okay. It might have been braver to make a drier, longerlasting wine. Drink 2013–15. 88
