Andrew Jefford: Saturated dark black-red. This is a grassier and more herbaceous aroma than for some of the other leading second wines, but perhaps that is all to Pichon Baron’s benefit. This is a mediumbodied wine with a fleshy style and impressively close-grained flavors, but there is unquestionably some mixed ripeness here. (After tasting Pichon Baron: Okay, we understand, but perhaps then there is an argument for a third wine here—such a big differential between the results from the very top vineyards and the least favored.) 2018–22. 88
Michael Schuster: Ripe, faintly leafy/herbal nose; medium-full, fresh, firmly tannic; on the more austere side in flavor, modest complexity, lightly chewy texture, medium length. Pleasant, needs food. 2018–28. 86
