Andrew Jefford: Saturated deep black-red. Juicy, fresh, exuberant, and true to its year—just a touch leafy, but that leafiness only serves to lift and freshen the wine. Blackcurrant fruits smilingly sweetened by a little oak. On the palate, this is firm, fresh, a little bit sharp-elbowed in some ways, with a slight rawness to the fruit flavors; not the most luxurious of the 2012s, but it’s not a luxurious year. The fruit is better drawn and defined at Lagrange (to find a point of comparison), but this has a little more extractive depth and poise. 2018–25. 89
Michael Schuster: Cedary, gravelly, Left-Bank Cabernet nose; medium-full, fresh, finely tannic, very nicely balanced; long, gently sweet, gently gravelly flavor, classic St-Julien elegance, restraint, harmony, and with fine length; lovely St-Julien, accessible early because of the fineness of the tannins. Bordeaux beverage perfection. 2018–30+. 91
