Andrew Jefford: Saturated midnight black-red. Earthy, warm, rich, and lush, with something of the brooding quality of the other top wines in this vintage— Montrose, for example. This has ample dark fruits and truffley wealth, though quietly expressed at present. On the palate, this is bright, firm, deep, and statuesque, with much lower acidity (for example) than Pavie Macquin and with softer tannins that both Pavie Maquin and Pavie Decesse. It has the richest, spiciest, softest, and gentlest fruit of the three. Perhaps Pavie Maquin has the best “vintage” profile, in that the freshness of 2012 is most strikingly evident there; maybe Pavie Decesse evinces most ambition; this, though, is the most gently and grandly harmonious. 2020–30. 94
