Andrew Jefford: Mid yellow-gold. Mmm: a sexy nose, by which I mean it has wealth and contour of aroma, and the notes evoked are sweetly perfumed (with some richer floral elements), juicy (think trickling melon), and creamy or fleshy (talc-dusted skin). Very attractive, yet subtle, too. None of the above is obvious (obviousness is rarely sexy). Haunting and persistent, like the scent of a good white Hermitage. On the palate, it is complex, subtle, secondary, mellow—really, the wine you hoped it would be when you smelled it. There’s vinosity and fermentative depth; the acidity is ripe and subtle; the warmth is seamlessly incorporated and not inconsistent with freshness, too. Admirable work at the cutting edge of southern hemisphere white-wine making, and the Hermitage analogy is not at all unjustified. 96
Andreas Larsson: Inviting nose, quite alluring in a Southern Rhône style, finely tuned oak, gently roasted with some nutty notes and ripe but not really tropical fruit like pear and apricot. The palate has a fine combination between ripe and unctuous fruit, yet with good extract and acidity, persistent and intense, with fine layers and a certain complexity, good style and character, should develop well. 90
Jancis Robinson: Mid-greenish copper. Gooseberry fool nose. Great polish and tension. Sweet palate entry and low acidity relative to the [2014 Momento Chenin Blanc/Verdelho]. A little bit of chew but overall a workmanlike, please-all blend. Quite evolved for a 2014. Could do with just a little more lift and definition, but it has suffered by being tasted immediately after the [Momento Chenin Blanc/ Verdelho]. There is pretty good acidity here. Confident finish. Drink 2014–17. 89
