Andrew Jefford: Pale green-gold. Barrel-fermented, I guess, but something about the process has left this wine with very faintly varnishy aromas. Not unpleasant, but not quite classical either. On the plus side, there’s an attractive sappiness and fresh vitality here; a whisper of mint or pine, too. On the palate, the wine is fresh, sappy, lively, poised, and secondary, with some satisfying sinew and depth to it. The fruit isn’t perhaps as rounded and singing as one might like, but the handling has brought the breadth and complexity that those who love the Pessac- Léognan/Graves blend might be looking for. 85
Andreas Larsson: The nose is marked by oak at first, some woody notes slightly masking the fruitiness; the fruit is quite restrained, with moderate ripeness, showing off hints of citrus, lime, crushed apple, and some grapey floral notes. Moderate weight and ripeness, with notes of apple and grape skin, yet fresh and zesty, with a medium-long and mouthwatering finish; still a bit restrained by woody notes on the finish. 83
Jancis Robinson: Pale greenish straw. Lots of interest on the nose. Big, bold, and ripe, with some crème pâtissière creaminess on the nose. Without enormous finesse, this is a solid effort with a hint of smokiness about it and some solid lemon and lime fruit flavors. I’d drink it sooner rather than later. There’s a bit of heat and slight astringency on the finish. Drink 2014–15. 87
