BB | Garnet to light tawny. A slightly rustic, dusty nose, with small red fruits, dried herbs, wild fennel, and crushed stones. Medium body, balanced yet slightly simple fruit, and only moderate length. 88
AJ | Deep, clear black-red. A terrific aromatic profile here, without the very wild strains of its more uninhibited peers: beautiful, firm, complex fruit, and black cherry and plum with a vibrant warmth to it. Almost meaty, but not quite. An understated, ripe sweetness behind; hugely inviting. Not quite as successful on the palate, in that we don't quite get beyond the fruit, and oddly enough it has a slight flatness to it, which is unusual in this tasting—less energy and life in the acidity than many. It is also a little vegetal, though this is a style observation rather than a criticism. It's a wine I would still love to drink. 89
MP | Pronounced nose of toast, red cherry, passion fruit, mint, oregano, Bovril, and cooked meat; this is atypical for the region. On the palate, the fruit is joined by very tart acidity and grippy tannins. There isn't much to like here, and it remains angular and unyielding on the finish. 84
