AK | Copper-tinged orange color in the glass, with the enticing and flinty verve of subtle reduction on the nose. The palate continues with this slight reduction but underneath it, sprightly lemon is countered by a firm set of tannins that seems to make the mouth water as much as the acidity does. There is an earthiness on the finish that some may dislike; I, however, find it enticing and grounding. Very mouthwatering and balanced, if with a rather short finish. Since it is from Austria, I allow myself to call this a "Jausenwein"—a wine to go with a simple repast of cold meats and cheeses. 89
FP | Light russet-brown. Ripe pink grapefruit, both the juice and the pith on the nose. Here the structure is actually dominated by the acidity, so there is a bounce and zip to the wine as well as a fine dusting of tannin. At once both charming and austere, but it is the grapefruit character on which finish ends. 92
DW | Coppery-amber with a slight pinkish (pink gold) tinge in appearance; herbal, orange, citrus-peel nose; very soft attack, with a spread of fine, soft-cotton tannins; nice bite of orange and grapefruit pith; gently tangy into the finish; very likeable, genteel, drinkable. 89
