SF | Attractive green gold, Barsac modesty is almost Chablisienne; an impressive nose dominated by primary fruit notes ( orchard apples, quince, poached pear) and behind that musk, white pepper and nougat. Medium concentration on the palate and only the subtlest of botrytic notes; the sugar level is equally modest, everything is somehow pared back to ensure an harmonious outcome. The danger of 'refining oneself out of existence' is a danger too far, but there is a sense of needing to keep everything in proportion...less is more, which ultimately may underscore the essence of what great Sauternes or Barsac should be about. Perfectly agreeable, at the very least, for all that. 91
AJ | Sound, full, mid-gold. Lots of intricate nougatine sweetness here; the smell of cassata-entombed fruits rather than the fresh fruits, but fruits nonetheless. All very deftly drawn. Lively and vivid as well as tangily sweet, with melon, peach and sweet grape. Fresh, succulent, choice. The breath-freshening acidity carries the wine with panache. Skilfully vinified.Drink Dates: 2024 - 2036. 92
